PaymentExpress API integration - increasing the field width for txn code

    Our PaymentExpress(Windcave) reports provide a TxnRef field with up to 16 alpha-numeric characters - <registration-no>-<event-code> (where the hyphen is automatically inserted)
    This was OK while CR only used a 6-digit registration number. Now CR has increased that to 8 digits.
    This leaves only 7 characters available to pass from the Event Code.
    This lack of available code description is a potential problem, particularly when the code is a word rather than a number. In a report, its easier for a human to filter different activities (events) with a word rather than a number.

    Who controls the field width - CR or Payment express? Can the data passed be increased to 20 characters?

    Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. I can confirm that the TxnRef field is limited to 16 characters and this is a limitation from WindCave. I don't know if they will be willing or able to increase the size of the field, but you can absolutely reach out to them.

    I will also bring this up with our team to review if we can improve the data that we send over, possibility limiting or truncating some of the data. For example, we may be able to remove some of the leading numbers in the registration number so it is shorter. Along with the event code it should be pretty easy to identify the registration with the event. WindCave may also make other fields available to us that we can add information too.

    Thanks. I have confirmed with PE (Windcave) the TxnRef field is fixed width at 16 characters. Unless PE can be convinced to update their API (aka enough customer demand..:)) ) thats it.

    That is what I expected, as I mentioned it is something I have passed over to our Product team to consider.
