Has anyone encountered this? A story appears to pick up a template that displays it at about 530 pixels versus 800 pixels.
When this happened with me I was puzzled. I thought about the width and it happens to match the width used for the bulletin. Mmmmm, read on.

I am using the "Impression" site template and the "Responsive Header Full Top Left Sidebar Bottom" bulletin template. I doubt whether this issue is template dependent, but may be.

It appears that if, when you first save and publish a story, you add it to a bulletin, the story is displayed in the website using the narrow bulletin template. Note that when first saved, it is also saved to the Story List page.
And it doesn't change after this, no matter what you do. Always displays in the narrow form.

If you don't save it to display in a bulletin at first, it's ok in the website. Then you can add it to a bulletin once it's been saved. This is the solution.
I have proven this by duplicating a story and saving and publishing them the two different ways, and bingo!
Below are the links to the two stories. You will see one of them has the word "narrow" included in the title to save confusion. I have now removed it from my story list and bulletin, but still active in the story library. I suggest you open each story in different tabs to help comparison.
(They will no longer be identical in their content as I am continuing to modify the correct one)

    Normal display: https://portal.clubrunner.ca/5430/Stories/social-media-share-bar-display
    Narrow display: https://portal.clubrunner.ca/5430/P...Slug=display-of-social-media-share-bar-narrow

Can someone kindly test this in their own site?

    Hi Ian,

This is an issue that we see infrequently, but have always had trouble reproducing. It looks like you've done a fair amount of work trying to isolate how to replicate the issue. Using the information you provided, I've used several of our testing accounts in an attempt to match the steps you outlined and each attempt did not result in the stories being narrow like your example story. When saving and publishing the story, regardless of the story display options, the story for me is consistently displaying as expected.

Could you please give me a detailed set of steps that you use to reproduce the issue? If we can confirm an accurate set of steps to reproduce the issue somewhat reliably we should be able to get the issue resolved.

Thanks Mickey - then I'm not seeing things at least!
I thought I'd found the cause but looks like it wasn't what I thought. I managed to create another story in the narrow format, without adding it to a bulletin at the time of publishing. Bummer.

Will keep trying to isolate the cause. There must be something different in the content or something else.

Still haven't worked out why but easy fix for when it happens.
Re-name the story that displays incorrectly by adding something to the name like "old". Save and Publish.
Create a new story by copying the old one, giving it the correct name. Save and Publish.
Check that it now displays ok.
    Delete the old story.

    Easy

From time to time I have had what Ian describes. It is very frustrating. I can usually get it to show correctly; most times it is a matter of redoing the story as a new story from my draft which is usually done in Word. It does no good to take the text from the narrow format because the error will migrate with it.

I do not know what triggers the narrow event.

Thanks John for confirming that it can happen. I have found creating a new story by copying the old one works fine - fixes it in a sec. This sort of proves it's got nothing to do with the content. It's like it manages somehow to get a wrong template attached to it. It looks like the same template as used for site pages, 540 pixels.

All of my stories display as Wide Left, Narrow Right with Right is empty. Doesn't matter whether they are initially saved for a bulletin, Home Page widget, story list or a draft.

What I want to do is add some widgets to the right 1/3 column OR have the story go the full width.

For Home Page I use - Full Width Top Band above Right Sidebar
For Other Pages I use a variety of layouts, mostly - Narrow Left, Wide Right
Even the built-in Page that displays all the stories is - Wide Left, Narrow Right ( cannot edit/add to right empty column)
I cannot find anywhere where I can select a layout for the actual Story page.

    Hi Nancy,

The story's on your website are displaying like that because you've got the sponsors enabled for the story detail pages. If you go into your Sponsor Settings under the Website Libraries, you should be able to see a section on displaying sponsors. I don't believe your club has any active sponsors, so you should be safe to disable all of the sponsor displays, which should help you recover un-used space on many pages.

Let us know how it goes!

I have changed the settings, but not refreshing yet. I will give it 24 hours. Now it's working - didn't take 24 hours.

Are sponsors the only option for the right sidebar with stories?

I'm glad you were able to get it working! At this time that is correct. I did pass on your feedback to the Product team that you would enjoy being able have more control over the widgets that display there!
