I like to properly size photos before uploading rather than have the system do it.

My question: What is the ideal size for members' profile photos?

    Hello Clark,

Thank you for posting. It's definitely a great idea to resize camera-original photos if possible. But please note even if you don't - ClubRunner will automatically resize images for you.

Let's say you have a very large photo (I ran a quick test with a 6000 pixel tall photo I have just now) - this is the 'camera raw' image with no editing. ClubRunner can accept this photo (as long as it is less than 15 MB in size) however it will automatically scale it down to be more "web friendly". We'll take the largest dimension (width or height) and scale it down to 1980 pixels. So my 6000 pixel tall photo becomes 1980 pixels tall (with whatever respective width). Please see:
    https://www.clubrunnersupport.com/kb/articles/how-does-clubrunner-store-images

However - we scale member profile photos down even more. If I upload my 6000 pixel tall photo as my member profile > we scale the largest dimension down to 450 pixels meaning it's 450 pixels tall when stored in your member profile.

It doesn't matter what your aspect ratio is - that is width vs height ratio - we maintain that. But we will scale down the image.

This is done automatically during image upload - meaning you will lose resolution (down to 1980 pixels) if you have an extremely large photo as in my test case.

If you need to keep a photo at maximum resolution (i.e. 6000 pixels tall) - then don't save the photo into the image library, member profile or photo album. Save that image into the Documents section - we won't do any auto-scaling if you upload very large images into club Documents.

I hope my explanations were clear, please do post again if you have more questions.

    Hello Clark,

I didn't actually give you an ideal size for member profile photos. If you'd like maximum size you could make member profile photos 450 x 450 pixels (wide and tall). But we'll generally accept whatever size or aspect ratio you give us - and then scale down accordingly.

OK thanks. The reason I asked is I generally size my pics in my graphic program before uploading since I trust it to do a better job than an automated system. But now that I know, I will size to 450 by 450.

    Thanks.
