We’re happy to announce the early access preview of our new Website Live Designer to our beta testing community.

You asked for a more intuitive, fun and easy way to manage your website and that is just what we delivered. Watch your website come to life as you design your website right in preview mode!

If your club isn’t a beta tester, and you would like to participate, simply reply back to this announcement to opt in. As a beta tester, you’ll continue to receive early access to all of our new features, prior to their official release.

How to access the new designer
To access the new Website live Designer you’ll first need to navigate to our current Website Designer (click the gray ‘Website’ tab at the top, then click ‘Website Designer’ link). Once in the current Website Designer, you will see a new tab titled “New Website (Beta)" and its menu options near the top of the page:

Why should I use the new Website Live Designer?
You now have the significant advantage of being able to see and interact with your page visually. No longer do you have to open, save and publish each widget. Now, simply click into a widget, make your changes and that’s it. Best of all, you can now customize your website exactly the way you want it, without any guess work.

The system will auto save any progress for you automatically, just like the Bulletin Live Designer!

    Live responsive preview
While you can easily see what the page looks like while designing, we’ve also enhanced the preview mode to switch between different devices as well. Preview your club’s website on a desktop, tablet, or phone. Simply clicking the icons at the top switches to the desired preview mode:

    Edit any custom page
You can also edit all of your custom pages with this new designer. Simply click on the Custom Page Library link under the New Website (Beta) tab and switch to the Grid View on the Page Library List.

    Pre-designed Page Templates

When creating new pages in ClubRunner you’ll now have access to a gallery of pre-made pages with content that is ready to go, which means you don’t ever have to start from scratch. Prefer creating your own design? That’s possible too!

    Feedback

As an Early Access participant, this is your chance to have your say. Share your feedback on what you like about this new designer and what could use improvement. Your suggestions will guide us in making improvements to this new module.

    Known limitations for beta period
There are two known issues for the current release of the website live designer

Issue 1: Only Next Gen Theme support
If your club has not switched to a next gen theme you’ll be prompted with a page letting you know that you have to switch.

Issue 2: Multiple Widgets with the same name
When you have the same Custom Widget (Page Specific or Global ) multiple times on the same page, you will be unable to edit the widget. To work around the issue, use the edit widget link as shown below:

Issue 3: Making changes to widgets requires a publish.

When you edit a widget while in the live designer like a custom widget the changes to your widget will not show up until the page is published. Always make sure to publish the entire page to see your changes go live.

Excellent. I've been wondering when this would appear since I first noticed Sarah using it on Membership success video. I love the preview on Tablet and Phone feature. This looks like a big step forward. Lots of similarity to the new bulletin editor that I use all the time. Thanks.

I'd like to beta this. I've wanted templates and control like since I last updated our site this past summer.

    Hi Greg,

I've marked your account here in the Community as a beta tester, and I've added the beta package to your Club's account.
You should see it shortly, you may need to log out and back in before it shows.

Zach. Is the beta available for district sites? I'd like to have it on 7820 if so. I edit it as well.

    Thanks

Thanks for wanting to join the beta testers!

@Les Walsh I've added your Club to the beta testers and identified your account here in the Community.

@Jim Goit I need to double check, but I don't see why we can't add the District. I'll follow up a bit later today once I have confirmation!

Just to follow up @Jim Goit I confirmed that we can add this to District's as well. I've gone ahead and set that up for you.

Thank you so much. I'll give it a work out on both sites.

I am wondering the recommended image size (pixel) is for the home page photo slider. We have the "stock" photos currently activated on our site but I would like to add real photos from our club. Thanks!

Also is there a guide to all of the recommended photo sizes for each of the page templates? Thanks!

The photos can be any size you want and ideally all of your photos are the same aspect ratio. The easiest thing to do is to pick a size and stick with it. The ClubRunner stock ones now available in the knowledgebase are all 1600x350. This guide has more information: http://clubrunner.helpserve.com/Kno...398/702/2017-carousel-best-practices---images

In a general sense, not really. As long as your photo(s) look good where they are shown on the page you should be fine. If you run into any issues on a page, let us know and we can help work out why it isn't looking as good as it could!

Hi Zack. I don't see the Live Website Designer option on the District 7820 site. Is it still possible?

Zach, does ClubRunner compress photos when they are added or is that something we should do first?

    Hello Les,

It is advisable that the user resizes and compresses photos before upload to ClubRunner. This is only to ensure the photo looks exactly the way they want.

If any user does not have access to a photo editor, I recommend this free online tool:

    https://pixlr.com/editor/
    * Note we cannot support any third-party tools such as this

However even if an extremely large photo is uploaded, you may view this article to see what our system does:

    http://clubrunner.helpserve.com/Kno...376/425/how-clubrunner-resizes--stores-images

Don't hesitate to respond if you have more questions.

I just utilized the new Home Page Designer which I enjoyed. If possible I would like to have access to a code view in the editing blocks. Maybe with more experimentation I will find it is not needed, but with my limited use today I sure found myself looking for it.

Thanks for adding me to the Beta program.
This new editing tool is really cool. It will be so much more intuitive for novice users as well as experienced users. Couple of comments:
    1) When I placed a button widget on my page, I got an error stating "Value does not fall in expected range". This is a very IT centric thing to say. It would be better to give a more meaningful description of the error. By the way, even though I got the error, the button did appear on the page after refreshing the page.
    2) A nice addition to make this even easier would be to provide some additional information for each of the widgets shown in on the right. Perhaps provide a description of what the widget does and may be even a sample of what it would look like.

Overall very excellent step forward. Thanks

I've had a chance to work with the new designer and really like it. As I've made a lot of use for the new bulletin designer a lot of the features are very familiar. A couple of things:
    1. Liike @Greg Sparkman, I find myself looking for the "source" button when editing as well. I've missed it with the new bulletin editor since the start. There really is no better way to find out what's going on with misbehaving HTML formatting. It it does misbehave at times.
    2. I seem to be able to edit the home page with the new designer.. and it allows me to create new pages and templates with it. However, while there is a tab for the Custom Page Library, when I go there it takes me to a old view of the pages and there does not seem to be a way to edit these pages with the new designer. We have a lot of existing Custom and Site pages. I'd like to be able to manage them with the new designer. Am I missing something?
The new editor is a big step forward and should make for a better looking site.

    Jim
