Stories page error; what is causing it

Thank you for your post here on our community!

The reason why this happened is because a story had not been added to this page in the last couple of years. Over this time, we have made changes to the style of the page but because no stories were added to this page, it has not been updated or refreshed since. I have gone ahead and fixed this page for the Club.

The best way to resolve this is to remove a story from the stories list page and then add it back to the page. This will force the page to update and render with the latest changes.

You can remove/add a story to this page by following these steps:

1. Select the “Website” tab from the menu bar near the top
2. Select the “Website Content” link from the menu bar directly below
3. Select the “Libraries” link on the left
4. Select the “Story Library” link
5. Click the “More” button for one of the stories and select the “Display Options”
6. Uncheck/check the “Display on Story List Page” option
7. Select the orange “Save” button

Thanks Shawn, I will check which sites have the problem and forward your information to them through the DG and/or AG as it is best if I not do it. Although if it has been two years there may not be anyone to do it. There are all kinds of other weird problems. One site on the District list does not go to the city in Manitoba but to a club with a similar name in the USA. In the city of Winnipeg, three clubs all use the Winnipeg Downtown's website...how does that happen?

By-the-way, I was doing a study on the number of stories our District clubs have on their website. Here in summary of what I discovered:

< less than 10 - ten (includes 4 at zero)
from 10 to 99 - fourteen
from 100 to 200 - two
> greater than 200 - two (the highest was 575)

The link to the Club homepage that is used on the District's Club directory is the website that the Club has entered in the Contact Info section of their Club Information in ClubRunner. If the Club goes into their Club Info and settings and updates their website to the URL for another Club, that is where users will be directed when selecting the house icon on the District's Club directory.

Those are interesting statistics that you gathered about how many stories the Clubs currently have on their website. Stories on the homepage are a great way to share information with not only members but also members of the public about what the Club has been up to. Thank you for sharing that!

 

Shawn, your welcome. Your comment inspired me to look more closely at three other features: the usage of social media buttons, blog comments, and key words with their "stories". The results were disappointing. Of the 36 "active" sites in the District eight (8) used social media buttons, four (4) used blog comments and only two (2) used keywords. Is this laziness, lack of time, or lack of knowledge or a little of all three.

All of which really raises the question of why a club has a public face. ClubRunner has answered that with its first "content" module specifically the membership success module. Few if any club websites appear to design content to attract the "local' public to their site. I really wish we would made this a prime topic of conversation here. If we do not do it who will. This is where we should be leaders. It is why key words should be used by all of us. It is why comments should be open to all viewers who have registered similar to newspapers. And it is why everyone should activate the social media buttons, assuming they work for all who visit.
