This inquiry is part feedback and part problem-solving.

This first issue has to do with placing a link in a slide in a dynamic carousel. It is possible of course but one has to read the instructions because it is not intuitive. The very first time we tried (I was working with another club member) we failed to simply scroll down far enough to find the process.

Once we got the words of the link in we were frustrated because we had to control over its placement.

In general, the placement was not too bad on a desk/laptop, or tablet. However, a smartphone was another matter, especially in the vertical position. The link button looks small on the former machines but the smartphone overwhelms the slide. In this case, the slide was 1600 x 500 pixels.

We took out all text and to the left of the 3 icons and in the vertical position the link button still overlapped the icons. (I also put a full view at the bottom)

Could you design the feature so that we could place it, left, right, bottom, top. Then we could design the banner with its placement in mind. Or would it not be possible to just make the whole image a link with the message leading you to a custom page.

This is really important because smartphones searches are now greater than all the other types of machines combined.

The second issue has to do with the loss of a feature in the dynamic custom pages. In the older custom page format, you had the ability to access the source code and to insert a template or "embed media" feature. In the current widgets, those features have now been removed. I wanted to embed a PowerPoint presentation into a custom page and could not do it. Is there a work-around or instructions on how it can be done. If this has been disabled intentionally, I am curious as to why. The custom page I created simply had to place a "Learn more link when I wanted the embed PowerPoint. Hi John,

Thank you letting us know about the issues that you ran into.

I've sent the issues with the dynamic carousel over to our team to review and explore. Adding additional controls to be able to control the position, and being able the make the slide itself a link are good thoughts on improving the current situation.

For custom pages, you are correct that you cannot access the source code option when using the live designer. If you are using a custom global, or custom page specific widget, you can click on the outbound arrow on the box. This will take you to the full editor, allowing you to embed your third party code.

Note that the preformatted widgets do not allow source code access at this time.

Let me know how that goes!

    Hi John,

Glad you found a good workaround for yourself! If you run into any issues, let us know and we'll see what we can do.

I've just recently added a dynamic carousel to our club's home page, and while it's a great addition to the website options, I also have some requests to improve it...
    • To John's point, I also found the link buttons a bit limiting. Not only can the placement of the buttons block certain parts of the image, but their color may be incompatible with the image as well. (I understand you can choose between primary & secondary buttons, but based on the entire website's color scheme, this may not work with all images).
    • Is there a way to make the ENTIRE IMAGE a link to whatever page you specify, instead of having to find the button & click it to navigate to the particular web page? My natural reaction is to click ANYWHERE on the scrolling image to take me where I want to go, instead of just the button alone. (Perhaps even make the button optional, but still add the link functionality)? This would also be helpful for mobile platforms where the button blocks the majority of the image anyway.
    • Lastly, I was a bit dissapointed in the formatting options for the slide title - I could not adjust the color, font, size, or placement of the title to cooperate with the specific image it would overlay. As a result, I'm leaving the title blank & using the slide "description" field instead to make the title appear how I want. The problem is, on mobile platforms, the description is not shown at all. Could you at least add some formatting options for the title, similar to how you have limited formatting options for widget titles? That would be a big help.
