Our Rotary club also has a separate incorporated Charitable Foundation, so completely separate banking. I was hoping that, in CloudEvents, there would be a way to have 2 separate eMerchant accounts and be able to designate which eMerchant account a transaction would be credited to. Example - sponsorships and donations to the eMerchant account for the charitable foundation bank account; ticket/product sales to the Rotary club bank account. Being able to do something like that, to have more than 1 destination bank account, would make the treasurer's job so much easier, especially if an export to Quickbooks is also done. Is it possible to do this, am I missing something? Or if not, is it something that is being contemplated for the final rollout of NOVA?? Thanks folks!

This also applies to our club. We have two eMerchant accounts, one for club operation and one for club activities. There is a requirement to keep these seperate. This maybe something coming up in NOVA.

Thanks Jim, glad to hear it's not just us! Hoping we get some positive feedback on this issue, and that multiple e-merchants (well, 2 at least) can be easily accommodated in NOVA. It would sure make our Treasurer's life easier if everything could be done within CloudEvents, rather than having to also use a 3rd party donations portal like CanadaHelps.

    Hi Dianne & Jim,

Thank you for sharing your needs regarding registrations and donations as part of events. At this time, for Cloud Events and Donations, you are able to designate different merchant accounts (payment processors) on a per event or per campaign basis. You can’t however “split” one transaction to funnel part of an amount to one account and the rest to another. I am not aware of any payment processors that can dynamically split a transaction between two bank accounts, or process a transaction through two separate payment accounts.

When the transaction is processed, all the payment processor sees is a lump sum from the payment. It doesn’t understand that the total funds break down between multiple sources (event revenue, donation revenue, membership, etc). I believe it would be best to consult with a financial professional who can advise on how to handle tracking payments and dispersing funds properly.

The good news is that Nova makes it easier to make sure the proper financial tracking is happening. You have the ability to maintain your own list of GL codes, and can assign these GL codes to each event, donation campaign, and for batches it is per line item in the invoice. You can then view this breakdown in a variety of reports to be able to export. We are also working on a Quickbooks integration whereby these transactions flow automatically to your accounting system.

ClubRunner, and ClubRunner Nova, both support multiple payment processing accounts for its modules, inclusive of the donations module. Would you be willing to share the reasons you’re opting to use CanadaHelps instead of the ClubRunner donations module? GL account tracking is also going to be coming to Donation reporting as a part of Nova.

The biggest reason we are using CanadaHelps right now is because it auto-generates and emails tax receipts to anyone making donations. I think though, between the Quickbooks integration (we will be switching to QB very soon) and the ability to have multiple payment processing modules, that it will be a no-brainer to switch everything over to ClubRunner NOVA once tax receipts (or the ability to create/generate) is available.
