Restrict viewing a widget to logged in members only.

Thank you for posting your question to the community.

I first want to make sure everyone understands how download files work: they are absolutely public and offer no protection from guests/public at large. If you want to ensure that only members can download these resources, you should instead use the document storage option. Document storage allows you to set files as either public or private, and by default they are private.

From here if the documents are private, you could create a link widget, or even a basic text widget, and add links to the documents. Only members would be able to download them, even if members of the public can see the links you provide.

If you really only want members to see them, I would suggest creating a custom page, and setting it to requires log in. Then you can add that page to the menu or somewhere on the homepage, members can click it and see its content, but not public.

Thanks, I added the first Document to the documents list then went to
Page | Blank Template &
created a template for our weekly meeting minutes,
named the template,
added bulleted text and then a link to that first document &
published.
I now want to place that template on the home page, but don't see where I can access the template to add it to the home page. I see it listed on the Custom Page Library Custom Widgets (Page Specific), but cannot find it listed in the home page designer


As a second issue, Is there any way to move all the Download files with their descriptions to this Document list?

 

Please ignore prior post - I finally figured out that I had to create a "Home Page Widget". And that worked fine.
