It has been found that removing the leading digit in the home phone number and mobile number that the app does not always dial the number. If it does you will get a message to indicate the number does not exist.

Let me explain, this is unique to the Australian phone system as far as I know.

    e.g. 02 59 2449 now becomes 61 259 2449 for landline
    0418 544 788 now becomes 61 418 544 788 for mobile phone

It seems on the surface adding the zero to numbers that don't currently have them should fix the problem.
Another point too, the numbers should be spaced in a similar block fashion as above for ease of reading. It is quite a challenge to read up to 11 numbers not spaced when you need to make a quick reference to it.

As we have freedom to vary the way we enter the numbers excepting the 61 country code it is a little confusing.
I know the ClubRunner team have been working on this, we need to make sure all districts in Australia are happy to change to suit all applications.

As a note if you already have a Rotary member in your contact list you won't experience this problem.

I trust my explanation and request will bring forward some suggestions.

Yes, several members from Australian mentioned the issue in the past. We are very close in coming out with a resolution to this issue. When the member uses the APP to call or text it will add the county code in front of the number. I know 61 418 544 788 and 61 0418 544 788 will work without issue, mobile phones are fine, but I think there might be an issue with landlines.

Could you please do some testing for me on your cell phone?
Please call a landline number with 61 and the local number, without the 0 and the 2 (no area code). Does it work?
Please call a landline number with 61 and the local number, with the 2 (area code). Does it work?
Please call a landline number with 61 and the local number, with the 0 and 2 (area code). Does it work?

At the moment we display the phone numbers how members enter them into ClubRunner. We do not format the numbers into the correct format. We are looking into this with a future update.

Please call a landline number with 61 and the local number, without the 0 and the 2 (no area code). Does it work?

Nope. Neither should it because a country code must be followed by an area code. I get told it is an invalid number.

Please call a landline number with 61 and the local number, with the 2 (area code). Does it work?

Yes. This works, as does +61 2 xxxx xxxx (just adding a plus on the front end)

Please call a landline number with 61 and the local number, with the 0 and 2 (area code). Does it work?

No. This does not work for me. I get told it is an invalid number.

Thank you for the testing Mark. I have passed this to our Developers so when we update the app we will make sure it works correctly. I will post again once I get more news.

It has been some time now, are we any further advanced on this issue?
It has been mentioned before but if we follow the lead of the majors in Australia you can't make a mistake when inputting the phone number. The system just allows the correct digits to be input.
We certainly do not want to be adding a + to make it work.
The spacing is important too, especially when viewing phone number. 0212345678 is much harder to read and note down than
    02 1234 5678, same for a mobile/cell phone number.
    Thank you for your assistance.

Yes, there has been further advancement with this issue. Due to the research from you, Mark, and others, we have found a way how to make it work correctly. The app will be updated soon to use the new way which will allow people to be able dial easily from their mobile phones using the CR app. This change may happen with the next update of the app, or the one after.

Once we release the update, we will be removing all leading 0s from the phone numbers in the zone in Australia.

Please let me know if you have any other questions about this.

I just wanted to follow up and let everyone know here that the Mobile App 2.9 and newer now correctly pass the country code in addition to the rest of the phone number.

It should be working more reliably now, and if anyone finds that is not the case, please let us know!

    Hi Zach,
Thank you for all your hard work on getting this done, however my DGN for the district does not think it is right yet. I have responded to him and requested he join ClubRunner community and take up the task himself. I am happy to make adjustments where necessary, it is a free app, and his club does not subscribe to ClubRunner. They only use the District version.
We all know how complex this has been - my area alone has an 02 prefix, then where I live we have 49 then the number. Australia starts with 02 and ends up with 08 in some states.

I am really much more interested in putting spaces between numbers for easier identification.

    Hi Chris

    It is stuffed up.

They have put a + sign in front of zeros.

    needs to be +61 417203603

    or 0417203603

thanks for getting clarified with CR

Its possible that the mobile app has older data before we pushed the country code update with the 2.9.x release. I would suggest having him refresh his member list.

We now simply pass the following to the phone + COUNTRYCODE PHONENUMBER so for a US phone, we would send +1 212 333 4444, if you didn't have data that included the country code, it would come through as something like +212 333 4444 which would not be a USA call. The + tells the phone that we're sending a country code as the first digit.

This also means that if they have a local prefix to dial the 0, that phone number has to be updated to conform to the correct format with the full country code. Does that make sense?

Clicking the refresh icon on the list of members should update the data for the club you're looking at.

The phone dialer function is now broken for me in US. We have never put the US country code in our telephone numbers (just area code.number) and now ClubRunner app dials +(areacode)(number) which does not work. Is there a work-around?

Peter, I find that the app dialer is working - our numbers are input as: (country or country code) (number with areacode but without the leading zero)

    Hi Peter,

This is likely caused by out of date information in the mobile app itself. I would suggest using the refresh option on your members list to grab the correctly formatted and full phone number.

Once updated, the phone numbers should start dialing out correctly. If the issue persist, I would suggest starting a support ticket with us: https://www.clubrunnersupport.com/conversation/new/5

Since the latest update to 2.9.4 the phone option reports incorrect numbers. Previously in Australia we have added the +61 as well as prefixing our numbers with the leading zero. This format has previously worked ok but now there seems to be a problem. Removing the leading zero return functionality. Is this a permanent situation to which we should alert our members to or is it a transitional glitch?

    Hi Legs,

    Thanks for following up.

You should not include the leading 0 in the phone number. The app has been updated for some time to include the country code when dialing out, which should help customers in all countries use the app successfully. This does mean that for users in Australia, you should not include the local 0 to dial out, as it is not the correct international standard for the phone.

My understanding of the 0 is that it only works within that state (or territory), and trying to call someone in another state would require the number without the 0 anyway.

    Hi Zach and others:
I am having trouble with the phone/text feature in the phone app. I have 2.9.5 and am using a 30 level access. Our club is 1404.
I am in the US so our country code is +1. Even though our members have a 1 in their country code box on the Personal page of their Member Profile, it doesn't always seem to register if I try to call/text someone from the app. The number that comes up on the screen treats the first digit of the area code as the country code and, thus, the rest of number is invalid.
I have found that if I open their Personal page on the web, go to Edit, and click on "United States of America" in the country code box (even though there is already a 1 in there), it works on the app (after I refresh, of course) although the country code box still has a 1 with no plus in front.
We have almost 300 members so I don't want to have to go through everyone's record.
Did something change recently? Is there some sitewide correction/update you or I can make?
    Thanks.
John White in Ann Arbor MI

    Hi John,

Sorry for the delayed response, I know that you put in a support ticket about this, and will followup there. If anyone else is having an this sort of issue with the country code missing in the app, please do contact the support team!
