We’re happy to announce that the new Website Live Designer (Beta) is now available to all Rotary Customers!

You asked for a more intuitive, fun and easy way to manage your website and that is just what we delivered. Watch your website come to life as you design your website right in preview mode!

How to access the new designer
The new Website Live Designer (beta) tab now shows after logging into the Members Area as shown below.

Why should I use the new Website Live Designer?

You now have the significant advantage of being able to see and interact with your page visually. No longer do you have to open, save and publish each widget. Now, simply click into a widget, make your changes and that’s it. Best of all, you can now customize your website exactly the way you want it, without any guess work.

The system will auto save any progress for you automatically, just like the Bulletin Live Designer!

    Live responsive preview
While you can easily see what the page looks like while designing, we’ve also enhanced the preview mode to switch between different devices as well. Preview your club’s website on a desktop, tablet, or phone. Simply clicking the icons at the top switches to the desired preview mode:

    Edit any custom page
You can also edit all of your custom pages with this new designer. Simply click on the Custom Page Library link under the New Website (Beta) tab and switch to the Grid View on the Page Library List.

    Pre-designed Page Templates

When creating new pages in ClubRunner you’ll now have access to a gallery of pre-made pages with content that is ready to go, which means you don’t ever have to start from scratch. Prefer creating your own design? That’s possible too!

    Feedback

As an Early Access participant, this is your chance to have your say. Share your feedback on what you like about this new designer and what could use improvement. Your suggestions will guide us in making improvements to this new module.

    Known limitations
There are three known issues for the current release of the website live designer

Issue 1: Only Next Gen Theme support
If your club has not switched to a next gen theme you’ll be prompted with a page letting you know that you have to switch.

Issue 2: Multiple Widgets with the same name
When you have the same Custom Widget (Page Specific or Global ) multiple times on the same page, you will be unable to edit the widget. To work around the issue, use the edit widget link as shown below:

Issue 3: Making changes to widgets requires a publish.

When you edit a widget while in the live designer like a custom widget the changes to your widget will not show up until the page is published. Always make sure to publish the entire page to see your changes go live.

    Team,

Its generally good. However, you have removed the ability to edit in the old editor and this is giving me grief -
    a) Tables ! You cannot add and edit tables in a custom page. Please add this back ASAP.
    b) source - the html code. Please bring this back. I use this in a few places where its easier to get the result I want.
Otherwise - please retain the option to edit in the old editor.
    thanks
    Richard, D9940.

The inability to get to the old editor is not intentional, and we're working to correct it.
For both tables and html, you can do them however you do need to use custom widgets, the preformatted widgets do not have access to the source option at this time. Just make sure you use the full edit option which is the box with the arrow pointing out.

OK ! I guess the missing link was knowing to use the full edit option with the arrow.
    Thanks

I have been using a mix of the old website designer and the new website designer and going back and forth between the two. For example, I have a 3 column widget on the home page that I edit right in the new website designer. That is new and really quick; I like it. I used it to collapse 8 widgets from the left column into one space. All but the "speakers" widget only have to be updated once a year or less. The idea was to not have a long scroll to find the information.

The speaker menu button goes to the actual speakers widget and is updated by another person. In our club, the person responsible for getting the speakers is the president-elect.

This month, I also added a full-width News widget from the new website designer below the Old Website designer 2 column template home page. I named it a blog instead of news. It is working well. The header for the blog is in a text widget, which does take pictures but also permitted me to place three links to what appear as menu items but really are story pages.

    Love the flexibility!

I enjoy the new beta but am I crazy in that I can't find out to get out of it and back into Clubrunner without circling all the way around back to our site and logging in again (I'm saying I can't find the back button to exit the beta editor)?

    Hi Jenna,

We have identified a few cases where depending on how you enter the live designer, you may not always have the go back button. We are looking to improve this in a few different ways in as we move forward! Though I do not yet have more information I can share on how this will be fixed.

The Go Back button likely started working after you had more current session history in the Administrative backend.

How do I edit the mobile version only to show the main (center) column first, instead of the entire let column then the main middle column?

    Hi Mahbub,

We dont have a way to stop content from showing in the mobile view. The primary column should be used if the page in question is using a newer layout. If you can let me know if this is an issue on the Club or District's website, I will be able to provide more specific instructions.

Thanks Zach: I just would like to reorder the mobile view on some pages both on the District site and on my Club site. For example on our District Home Page, (D7230), we have the center column showing up first, followed by the left column. However, on some other pages, (e.g. rotary7230.org/page/covid-19) we see the left column first on the mobile view. How do I change the mobile iew on this page to be like the Home Page?

    Hi Mahbub,

That's a good question - the order of the columns displayed in mobile view is controlled by what layout you have on the page. Examples of layouts are 1 column, 2 column, etc. In our older designers this is also called "Content Template". Click below to read more:
    https://www.clubrunnersupport.com/article/924-content-template-in-clubrunner

Your homepage is using the layout "Full Width Top Band above Left Sidebar". Your 'Covid-19' custom page is using the layout "Narrow Left, Wide Right". They are similar layouts (a narrow left hand column, a wide right column).

But "Full Width Top Band above Left Sidebar" displays the wider right column first in mobile view; "Narrow Left, Wide Right" displays the narrower left column first in mobile view.

So to match please make the layout of your "Covid-19" custom page "Full Width Top Band above Left Sidebar" and this will match how your custom page behaves in mobile view (while still looking the same in Desktop view).

Please post again if you have further questions.
