This is something that's puzzled me for the last decade. For some reason, CR's philosophy is that committees can only exist if they're attached to a club officer.

And this can make it hard to understand the list of committees, because in our club we have committees which aren't attended by, much less led by, a club officer. So the CR structure seems surprisingly hierarchical and rigid.

In general, Rotary is a very bottom-up organization. So having this particular thing be top-down is strange.

I know that the current committees module for yearly committees, do require the officer connection. Standing Committees do not, which does allow for what you’re looking for. But the downside is that standing committees don’t keep any history year to year which can impact member participation history.

I can share that this is something that we're looking to overhaul as we revamp and improve the committees module in Nova. Having the strict requirements that each committee must be linked to an officer will be something that we're reviewing as part of this process.

Outside of getting rid of the strict integration with the officer list, is there anything else you would like to see in committees?

HI Zach, Diving back into the sandbox. Because of the above situation, we went to exclusive use of Standing Committees and agree loss of history is a factor. That being said, I didn't see standing committee choice in the committee area.

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for sharing this with our team, its something we’re working to address in an upcoming update for Nova. You should totally be able to switch between the standing and year committees in addition to the reports area.

Committees will be getting a bigger overhaul as part of a future update to Nova to modernize it as well, with some neat functionality to follow :).
