Over the past 25 years, I have created newsletters for several organizations using MS Publisher. I am having a hard time adapting to the ClubRunner bulletin system -- I feel very straitjacketed by the templates and the choice of fonts is underwhelming. Is there any way of dropping an MS Publisher file onto a blank page, or failing that of dropping a PDF or JPG of the Publisher page onto a blank page?

    Hello Alton,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and look towards finding a way forward with ClubRunner.

Its important to remember that some of the design choices in the Bulletin designer are intentional to ensure that we can deliver the content as closely as to how it shows in the designer. Some examples are that not all fonts are available on all systems, and in some cases within the email client itself. This is part of the reason we show only a limited set of fonts for the website and bulletin designer, to help ensure that they show up the same way they’re presented. HTML itself is quite limited because we typically delivering these emails to clients, and email clients are not the same as the latest and greatest browsers.

If you’ve created something like a PDF externally to ClubRunner, you would be able to add that as a download or document file to allow it to be sent. You could also capture a picture of your completed newsletter and add it into the Bulletin designer, further you could link the pictures to the document as well.

If you are able to share what your current newsletters look like, we might be able to help bridge the gap, and or see if there are improvements we can make to our current widgets and layouts.

    Hi Zach,

Here is the first page of our latest newsletter, produced by MS Publisher. I appreciate that font selection on ClubRunner is limited to what most people's computers will translate correctly, which is why I usually send our newsletter as a series of PNG images such as this, meaning the fonts I choose to use are correctly displayed on every computer. Currently, to send a newsletter, I simply add a series of PNG images (one for each page) to an email that I then send to every club member. My question is: Can I do the same thing using the Bulletin function? That is, can I simply cut and paste a PNG image to fully fill each page of say a 6-page bulletin?

Second question (while I'm here): I've received an email inquiry from a non-member in my personal email Inbox. I want to send a reply via ClubRunner rather than my personal email, but I don't see any way of sending an email to a non-member.

    Best regards,

If that is how you wanted to proceed, you could absolutely do that. As an example, I’ve taken the image you provided here, and included it into a Bulletin, with another similar example of content via an image to show you want that might look like. Our Bulletins don’t break down into pages they’re a singular html document, and you would get that effect in the finished product. I hope this example helps:

Alternatively, you could move that content directly into a ClubRunner Bulletin. Here is an example of the content you had presented me, with minor formatting added to it, into our Bulletin. Obviously there would be more work to transfer more of the content. I also included one of our widgets to automatically pull the upcoming content out of the ClubRunner website on our demo account.

You would be able to add that user as a contact, however they will get a notification from the club that their contact record was added. The notice will come from the club, using the person who added their records details, and from this they will be able to reply/see your personal email address as it is entered into ClubRunner.

If you also sent them an email from ClubRunner, once they were added as a contact in the system, they would also be able to reply directly to your personal email, as it will be included in the reply-to response.

So in effect you can, but if the goal was not to reveal your contact information, it would not work out due to the items I outlined above.

Alan, can I just say thank you - I thought I was the only person left that uses MS Publisher! I find myself going back to it on a regular basis. This thread and the ClubRunner suggestions have given me some ideas now as to how to also be able to use Publisher-generated content within the Bulletins module.
