Besides collecting credit card payments for membership dues and event registrations, the Online Payment module even allows your club or district to collect online donations, right from your website.

Optimizing your donation forms is pivotal to helping further the impact that your organization can make in your community. In this article, we’ll share some best practices that you can follow.

    Make it easy to find

As a call to action, your ask for donations has to stand out and be easy to find.
    • Add it as a button on your menu: It’s one of the first things your website visitors look at and a great place to make your call to action stand out. Consider simply adding a “Donate Now” link as a button and direct your audience to the correct page. Click here to learn how you can do this.

    • Add a widget on your home page: Use a custom widget and add a compelling image to draw attention to the call to action and link it to the donation page. You can also use a global widget and add that to any secondary page along with your homepage for added visibility. Click here to learn more.
    Answer the ‘Why’

Give your website visitors a reason to donate.
    • Tell a story: Donors need to know what causes are being supported. Share details about the different projects, events and initiatives that your club or district supports and how their donation can help. Click here to learn how to create a story.

    • Share your progress and celebrate achieving goals: If you are collecting donations for a specific goal, share your progress. How far is the club from achieving its goal? Have we surpassed it? Sharing details on the amount of help still needed helps your donors relate to the ask. Always continue to share what your club accomplished with previous donations and allow your donors to celebrate with you!
    Make it easy

Simplicity is key which is why it’s important to think about the user’s experience on your donation form.
    • Suggest pre-determined amounts on your donation form that donors can simply select. It is also recommended to allow them to have a free-form field to enter any value they wish to.

    • Hide distractions so that the donation form loads on its own, without any additional data surrounding it.

    Make it shareable on social

Spread the news and let your donors become your greatest advocates.
    • Add the social share bar: With the built-in social media bar, anyone can ‘Like’ or ‘Share’ your donation page on their social media platforms giving your cause more publicity. Click here to learn how to create this custom widget.

    • Encourage sharing the page: Add a sentence on your donation page to encourage sharing it to spread awareness about the causes you support. Point visitors to the share bar.
    Applying for a merchant account

For clubs that are interested in the Online payment module, you can learn more by visiting our website.
    • For clubs in the US: Click here for more information getting started with Sage.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our partner Sage BankCard has waived all monthly fees until July, including the support, gateway and minimum monthly fees for new clubs signing up. Click here to learn more.

    • For clubs in Canada: Click here for more information on getting started with Bambora. Currently, Bambora is offering a bonus of $100.00 as an incentive to new clubs signing up for a merchant account. Click here to learn more.

    • International clubs can learn more by clicking here

We want to hear from you! What best practices have you implemented to make your donation page further stand out?

Can we setup a donation button on a Facebook page? We have a PayPal account to take charges.
    Thanks,

    Jim

    Hello Jim,

Both Facebook and PayPal are third party tools, so CR Support would be unable to answer this question for you.

However - while outside the scope of our support - I was able to find this: click here to view an article from PayPal. Note we would be unable to assist you with these instructions.

Please feel free to ask any further questions, as another member of our community might be able to offer you further guidance.
